Rowdies come back to beat Toronto FC II

VAUGHAN, Ontario — The Rowdies scored three goals in 14 minutes in the second half to get a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Toronto FC II and move into first place in the USL's Eastern Conference on Friday.

Joe Cole, Martin Paterson and Darwin Jones scored between the 68th and 82nd minutes for the Rowdies (6-2-2).

"I thought the players showed tremendous character," coach Stuart Campbell said. "It was a difficult first half for us, but the guys came in, we had a good chat at halftime, went back out and I thought we were absolutely outstanding in the second half."

Toronto FC II's Luca Uccello gave his team the lead in the 10th minute, besting the offside trap and beating goalkeeper Matt Pickens one-on-one.

The Rowdies, with 20 points, are in first place by one point ahead of Charleston, which visits Harrisburg City on Saturday.

MELBOURNE — With 1 yard separating Plant from an incredible come-from-behind victory, or a devastating defeat, it all came down to a matter of trust.

Plant quarterback Jordan McCloud scrambles to avoid Viera's pass rush during Friday night's Class 7A regional semifinal. McCloud would complete a 45-yard pass to Leonard Parker on the play to help set up a Panthers touchdown. Plant would win the game 22-18 to advance to the regional finals.
